       I also have no paid staff and work out of a space that’s under 1300 square feet. In spite of the small scale I operate on, I’ve managed, year-after-year, to bring home a six figure net income.

       What I’m trying to tell you is that I’ve figured out how to thrive as a “little guy.”

But it wasn’t always that way!

       When I started out, I had a hard time.  Classes were sometimes embarrassingly small and I had to make jokes about “Oh, it’s a nice day, everyone’s outside.”  Or “It’s raining, everyone’s staying home.”

       I jumped at the offer and taught a roomful of very responsive people.  And I got some students out of it.  And I did a press release.  And I got some more students.  And I talked about the seminar in my pamphlets and advertising, and saw that it credentialed me so people were eager to join my school.

Believe me, that one seminar was the boost in students, income and confidence that I needed at that early, vulnerable point in my desperate experiment in self-employment!

       I made a lot of mistakes in how much I charged, how I neglected to truly use it as a recruiting and referral tool, how I failed to guarantee a return visit, and all the many other things I’ve since learned.
